Actress, Brooke Mangum, is a supporter of the CustomInk’s Be Good to Each Other campaign. PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center helps make a difference for kids, their parents and even schools by uniting and educating communities to help prevent bullying. As someone who has been bullied before, Brooke has some sage advice.

We sat down with Brooke for a quick chat on the bullying prevention campaign and what’s she’s up to next.
GLITTER: What are you working on right now?
BROOKE: Currently I have teamed up with PACERS, National Bullying Prevention Center, and CustomInk for the Be Good to Each Other Campaign, spreading awareness of the bullying epidemic and the impact that it has on the youth of today. Bullying stops when we decide not to be victims or tolerate it anymore. By banning together we can stop bullying in its tracks.
GLITTER: Why did you get involved in CustomInk’s Be Good to Each Other campaign?
BROOKE: I have always wanted to be involved in an anti-bullying campaign. It is an issue that is near and dear to my heart, and when the opportunity arose to join the Be Good to Each Other Campaign I could not refuse.
GLITTER: Have you ever been bullied before?
BROOKE: I was not what you would call a beautiful child, in fact far from it. I was chunky, awkward and had a mullet. I was teased, never picked first, and I didn’t sit by the popular pretty girls. Needless to say I didn’t have the greatest self-esteem growing up. As I matured my body changed and grew into myself only to discover that girls are even meaner when they see you as a threat. I hated going to school.
GLITTER: How did you rise above the occasion and not become a victim?
BROOKE: One day it hit me. The girls that said these awful ugly things about me were even uglier inside than I felt. They may have the “power” and pull at school, but they were powerless over me. Only I had the power to choose how I felt about myself. It didn’t happen overnight and their mean words still hurt, but for the first time I felt strong enough to just be myself and, being me was more than enough.
GLITTER: What can people do if they see someone else being bullied?
BROOKE: Say something! Anything! Be a hero! Bullies are searching for attention. They are just as scared as the people they are hurting. There is strength in numbers and if we band together we can stop bullying.
GLITTER: What can we see you in next and what charities are you working with currently and how can others get involved?
BROOKE: You can see me popping up for time to time in your magazines, radios and televisions. Or you can tune into my webisodes, “Girly Ballz.” Currently, I have been working with Best Friends Animal Society and continuing on Anti-Bullying Projects.
